Essential reveals a radically designed smartphone named as ‘Project Gem’

Last updated on March 23, 2020

Essential is a company which was founded by the founder of Android, Andy Rubin. Now, it is interesting to note that there have been allegations which are serious on Andy Rubin regarding sexual harassment and assault. However, Andy has denied those allegations saying that they are done by his ex-wife due to their divorce. But things get interesting as Google reportedly paid $9 Million to Andy Rubin for leaving Google which meant that they had something to hide.

Nonetheless, we are here to tell you that Essential has just shared a teaser of its upcoming smartphone. And quite honestly, the smartphone looks extremely interesting with a very unique and weird design. As far as the first smartphone from Essential was concerned, it was the PH-1 which was the first handset to come with a notch. Later, everyone followed with a notched smartphone to reduce the bezels. But this time around, Essential has pulled off something that we don’t think many OEMs would be able to make.

Because the new smartphone from Essential under ‘Project Gem’ is extremely tall and does not look like a smartphone at all to be honest. We also don’t know what aspect ratio it comes with as Andy Rubin also showed off a new UI which will come with this smartphone. Basically, we will see that this smartphone will show everything in a cramped down mode and it sort of looks like a NoPhone concept where the idea of ‘seeing less is more’ is coming to life.

According to a statement from Essential to The Verge, this is indeed their latest smartphone coming later this year and they say that “We’ve been working on a new device that’s now in early testing with our team outside the lab. We look forward to sharing more in the near future.”
